29 Jun 11:Jiayuguan, China

Jiayuguan, China

Once the baggage left at the hotel,we headed directly to the fort, 15th century fort with the Great Wall overlooking the Gobi desert and controlling access to the Middle Kingdom. Touristic place with soldiers in ancient costumes. Again most of the tourists are local with a few foreigners. We managed to have a look at the Great Wall before dinner. This is the city closest to the Great Wall in this trip. We were the last visitors and enjoyed the sunset on the wall for the 2 of us only. The climb up the 1000 steps were equal to a 2 hour walk.

We had dinner with Julien and Isabelle, who we are not sure to meet again.

Every place here is negotiable. The 4-star hotel at which we paid 40% of the rack rate, the shops, the taxis.
